Train travel with bikes between Frankfurt & Andermatt in August 2016
This blog entry shows bike carriage arrangements on intercity trains in Germany and Switzerland during a trip we took in August 2016 from Frankfurt in Germany to Andermatt in Switzerland, We then followed the Rhine Cycle Route to the North Sea (refer http://gntrhine.blogspot.com/ and http://gnteuro.blogspot.com/) Bike storage carriage on the train from Frankfurt to Basel This purpose-built carriage comprises racks & hooks forming 16 horizontal or vertical bike storage spaces and an adjacent seated area where we had reserved seats Our bikes (red, blue) & others in the bike storage carriage We were the first to load our bikes, and as shown others followed before the train departed - the carriage was full of bikes on lengthy segments of the trip The storage area on the Swiss train from Basel SBB to Göschenen via Lucerne The storage area on the train from Göschenen to Andermatt (1400m) This was on the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn line through the mountains
